WILD HERBS OF UTAH

Sat., April 12, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Join herbalist, Merry Lycett Harrison, for a pre-Earth Day Celebration to learn about the useful, wild herbs of Utah. We will meet at the Museum of Natural History at the University of Utah at 9 a.m. and travel to Millcreek Herbs to visit Merry at her herbal practice and take a  tour or her herbal pharmacy. Merry will give an hour's instuction on herbalism and share insights into her ethnobotanical research on ancient Utah artifacts. Then we will travel up Millcreek Canyon, stopping at various elevations to identify the herbs of the wild and learn of their uses.
$35 for members, $45 for nonmembers.

    LOCATION: Wasatch Mountain State Park, Heber Utah


     Join herbalist, Merry Lycett Harison, for an instructional day in the Wasatch mountains. We will set out to discover the herbs of the wild. Learn how to use cherry bark and what yarrow is good for and more. We will caravan in our vehicles on maintained dirt roads to visit different bioregions. Practical instruction and demonstrations will be givin on botany, collection, cultivation, harvest techniques, preparations, preservation, use and medicinal value. Bring lunch, loops, plant books, sunscreen and water. We will meet at the visitor's Center at Wasatch Mountain State Park in Midway, Utah. Carpool if you can. Register by July 1st .

    Take I-80 East towards Park City.

    Get off at Exit 146 (Hwy 40 to Heber).

    Follow past Jordanelle Reservoir to the first light.

    Turn right onto River Road

    Follow this for about 2 miles to the Circle

    Take the right fork onto Burgi Lane (heading west)

    Follow Burgi lane as it changes into Cari Lane

    At the stop sign (at Homestead Dr.) turn right.

    Follow this road as it curves to the left.

    The visitor center is on your right.

    The mix of water from melting snow, cooler temperatures, and higher elevations of the Uinta Mountains create a bioregion that grows some of the most interesting and potent, wild medicinal plants found in Utah. Join Merry on this daylong exploration of the Mirror Lake Hwy.. Bring lunch, loops, water, books hat, and sunscreen. Space is limited.

    Enjoy the cool of the canyon as we caravan and hike to different elevations and bioregions to learn about the useful medicinal herbs of the wild. Seeing them in their habitat can broaden herbal knowledge and increase environmental awareness. Uses, diversity, herbal preparations, botany and ethical wildcrafting will be discussed and demonstrated. This is a great place to spend a hot summer day. Bring your loops, books, lunch, hat and water.
